Streisand’s Stance on Trump
Streisand has long been a supporter of the Democratic Party and isn’t shy about expressing her strong feelings about former President Donald Trump. She has described him as “so stupid” and “ill-informed,” labeling him “the Liar in Chief, the Groper in Chief.” In a recent interview with Stephen Colbert, she boldly stated, “I can’t live in this country if he becomes president again.”
This isn’t the first time Streisand has made such a dramatic declaration. After Trump’s victory in 2016, she humorously vowed to leave the United States, saying, “America was great – before you were elected.”
Channeling Frustration Through Music
Streisand’s frustration with Trump inspired her to release her 36th album, Walls, in 2018. This powerful work serves as a commentary on what she sees as Trump’s tyranny and features impactful tracks like “Don’t Lie to Me.” Streisand explained that the constant stream of news and misinformation distressed her, prompting her to express her outrage through her music. She believes the country deserves honesty and stands firmly against deception.
Artists as the Conscience of Society
In her memoir, My Name is Barbra, Streisand reflects on the vital role artists play in society. She believes that artists serve as a country’s conscience, challenging people to confront uncomfortable truths. “That’s why art is the enemy of tyrants and dictators,” she asserts.
Staying and Advocating for Change
Unfortunately, Streisand’s powerful voice wasn’t enough to sway the electorate in 2016. Trump was elected, leaving celebrities like her to ponder whether to leave the country or stay and fight for change. Some, like comedian George Lopez and talk show host Jon Stewart, made lighthearted comments about relocating, while others, like Chelsea Handler, recognized the importance of their platforms in a divided nation.
Finding Hope in President Biden
After four challenging years, Streisand sees hope in President Joe Biden. She admires his compassion, honesty, and integrity and believes the country is moving in a positive direction. However, she remains concerned about the upcoming elections and the possibility of Trump returning to power. Streisand is resolute about not living in a country led by someone she considers “so stupid” and “so ill-informed.”
A Vision for a New America
Ultimately, Streisand envisions a new America—one free from pollution, insults, and revenge. She calls for a restoration of the nobility of truth, firmly believing that only then will America truly be great again.
