Fans are devastated. With heavy hearts, we announce the passing.

Beccy Barr, the host of FRONT BBC, passed away following a protracted illness. She gave up her position as a TV anchor to join the fire service.

The Lancaster-based Ms. Barr announced in 2019 that she was leaving journalism after 20 years to work for her father Roy’s employer, Lancashire Fire & Rescue.

In February 2022, she announced on social media that she had passed all of her end-point exams, which comprised the theoretical, interview, and practical sections.

However, Ms. Barr eventually revealed to the world—and with much sadness—that she had been diagnosed with “incurable cancer” in December of last year.

“Two lessons I’ve learned from this obviously less-than-ideal experience,” she wrote in her essay. 1) Life is absurd. 2) The amount of love, concern, and friendship that people can have for one another is astounding.

Earlier today, her family posted a notice of her passing on the social media platform X.

The statement, “I am very sorry to say that Beccy died peacefully this morning,” was put on her account at 2:15 p.m.

“She spent her final days at @SJHospice, where she and her family were treated with the utmost dignity and kindness.”

“Donations in honor of Beccy can be made to the hospice.”

Ms. Barr worked for the Blackpool Citizen when she was in her early twenties. She then worked at BBC North West Tonight for seven years.
