Denzel Washington confirms his hit action franchise is getting two more sequels

Very welcome news.

Denzel Washington has confirmed that two more sequels in his beloved Equalizer franchise are in the works.

Based on the 1980s TV series of the same name, the two-time Oscar-winner has starred in three Equalizer films to date – starting with 2014’s The Equalizer.

In the movies, he plays Robert McCall – a man trying to put his shadowy, violent past behind him and live in peace.

Witnessing various injustices and wrongs, however, he finds himself compelled throughout the trilogy to protect those who need help – putting himself in great danger in the process.

While 2023’s The Equalizer 3 – which saw McCall fighting gangsters in south Italy – was widely publicised as “the final chapter” in the saga, Washington has rolled this back in a recent interview to promote Gladiator 2.

Speaking to Esquire, he said: “I told them I would do another Equalizer, and we’re doing four and five. More people are happy about that—people love those daggone Equalizers.”

As for the reasons why he wants to make more, Washington added: “I’ve come to realise that the Equalizer films are for me, too, because they’re for the people.

“They want me to go get the bad guys. ‘We can’t get them, so you go get them.’ And I say: ‘Okay, I’ll get them! Just wait right there. I’ll be right back!’

For those who want to revisit The Equalizer trilogy, the first two films are streaming on Netflix now.

The Equalizer 3 can also be watched via NOW Cinema and Sky Cinema.
